Howdy. My name is Josh Tutt, and this is our vineyard. Seven years ago, this was all trees, weeds, and briars. We knew we wanted a vineyard right here in Burleson County, but we had a lot of hard work ahead of us. So we did it together. My family and I tilled the land, built the rows, and dug the holes for all two hundred something grapevines. And then we nurtured it, year after year.
We’re really proud of what we made here. That’s why we were so worried this February during the big freeze. We weren’t sure if our plants were going to make it, and if all of our years of hard work were going to be lost. Our crops survived, and so did we, but it wasn’t easy. Thankfully, we didn’t have to do it alone. Because just like with every disaster, Texans pull through with neighbors helping neighbors.
We helped our neighbors carry water when the well froze over. We helped each other fix our busted pipes. And if we had warmth to share, we let each other into our homes. We could count on our neighbors to be there for us when disaster struck, but we couldn’t count on our state government to be prepared. They let us down, and we paid for their failures. Not just in money, but with our lives and our livelihoods too. It didn’t have to be like this. We do deserve better. It’s time for something new.
My name is Josh Tutt and I am running for Texas State Representative in House District 13. I want to be a voice for those of us who haven’t been heard. I want to help build rural infrastructure, so we can all have good reliable internet access, and a wide energy portfolio that makes Texas strong, so we are never left in the dark again. I want to help our neighbors meet their healthcare needs, by investing in preventative care, telemedicine, and by reversing this trend of rural hospital closures. And I want to invest in our future, by supporting our teachers, so that way our students can have the best possible educations and abundant career options. We can have all of these things if we work together, and if our representatives do their jobs.
We should be able to count on our elected officials to mitigate disasters, prepare for the future, and to do the hard work to build something that we can all be proud of. Instead, Texas has more citizens left uninsured than any state in the nation. Funding meant for our public schools is instead pocketed by the state government. And our energy grid collapses in their hands. We deserve better. We deserve somebody in the state capitol who will be a good neighbor for us. I am somebody, and I want to be that kind of neighbor. But I can’t do it alone. I’m going to need your help.
I need to hear from you. Tell me what matters the most to you. Let’s share our stories. Come and meet me, and bring a friend. Go to my website, TuttForTexas.com and sign up for updates. Find me on Facebook. Instagram, and Twitter. Send me a message, call me, or even text me. I’m here to listen, and I’ve already got my sleeves rolled up. We’ve got a lot of hard work ahead of us. So let’s do it together.
See you ‘round, neighbor.
